EXTREMELY FINE CIVIL WAR BURNSIDE PERCUSSION CARBINE.SN 17543. Cal. 52. This gun conforms to other Civil War carbines of this pattern with 21″ bbl and about 39″ overall. This carbine utilized the unique Ambrose Burnside design “ice cream cone” shaped brass percussion cartridge. This is a standard 5th Model marked “BURNSIDE PATENT / MODEL OF 1864”. This gun is accompanied by about 20 modern machined brass casings to shoot black powder. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine and all matching. Bbl retains about 70% of its orig thin blue finish though most has turned plum. The frame, lock and hammer exhibit bright case colors though muted in areas with balance silver/gray. The breech lever and backstrap exhibit about 50% bright brilliant blue. Buttstock is sound and solid with crisp cartouches with numerous small dings and dents. Forestock has similar surface, though several large gouges on right side as can be seen in photos. Mechanics are fine with crisp shiny bore. Brass are mostly like new, though a few have torn top flanges. 52801-4 JS (1,500-2,500) – Lot 3064
