FINE DUNLAP SCHOOL QUEEN ANNE MAPLE CHEST ON CHEST.

Second half 18th century, New Hampshire. In two parts, the upper case with cove molded crest fitted with five graduated long drawers with thumbmolded edges mounted to the lower case with mid-molding. The lower case with an unusual arrangement of a deep drawer with simulated double drawer front above a second long drawer raised on pronounced short yet bandy cabriole legs with shaped returns terminating in spoon feet centering a pronounced scalloped and shaped frontal apron with four typical Dunlap “scrolls” at the center. The case fitted with original circular stamped brasses and matching escutcheons, one escutcheon absent. SIZE: 80″ h x 42″ w (overall), 36-3/4″ w (case) x 20-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: The chest with normal and expected wear and abrasions, surface regularly cleaned over extended periods of time resulting in lighter-than-expected color and absence of optimal patina. Surface retains a pleasing color. Backboards, molding, legs, and returns all appear original. Very good overall. 52714-25 (7,000-9,000) – Lot 2126
