CHIPPENDALE CHERRY CHEST OF DRAWERS.

Third quarter 18th century, Virginia or Mid-Atlantic region. The rectangular top with applied, molded edge above the conforming case with inset reeded quarter columns centering four graduated long drawers with cockbeaded edges on a molded base, raised on pronounced ogee bracket feet with scalloped returns. The chest fitted with oval brasses of the period, however not original to the chest. SIZE: 33-1/2″ h x 36-1/2″ w x 22″ d. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: Clean surface overall with light honey-brown color, old shrinkage cracks along seams at top and case sides. Feet appear original. Rear support proper left rear leg replaced. Structurally very good, some repairs to drawer guides, one minor repair to proper left side of drawer divider between top and second drawer. 52714-17 (800-1,200) – Lot 2127
