AMERICAN STERLING MUG AND PLATE WITH MARIA TEN EYCK DECATUR MAYO INSCRIPTION.1) Handled mug inscribed “Maria Ten Eyck Decatur Mayo from her uncle Stephen Decatur October 14, 1882”. The cyllinder shaped mug with c-form handle has all over hammered finish by Shreve, Crump & Low. The bottom marked “Shreve, Crump & Low sterling 82” with company date mark 1883. 2) Small plate inscribed “U.S.S. Decatur Christened by Maria Ten Eyck Decatur Mayo Richmond VA. September 26th 1900” by Bixby Silver Company, Providence, RI, circa 1900. Round stepped plate with beaded edge, the bottom marked “B.S.C. Sterling 40”. Maria Ten Eyck Decatur Mayo 1882-1979, sixth generation Decatur and great grand-niece of Commodore Stephen Decatur. The USS Decatur (DD-5) was a Bainbridge-class destroyer in the United States Navy. Total weight approximately 7 troy oz. SIZE: 3-1/2″ h. 2) 5″ dia. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine, descendant of Commodore Stephen Decatur (1779-1820), Captain John Pine Decatur (1786-1832), and Vice Admiral Morton Deyo (1887-1973). Also Descending from the Ten Eyck and Mayo Families.
