*RARE AND DESIRABLE COLT MODEL 1907 MILITARY CONTRACT PISTOL WITH COLT FACTORY LETTER.

SN 157. Cal. 45 Rimless/Smokeless. 5″ bbl. Blue finish, checkered walnut grips. This pistol is one of 201 made as a military contract to the US Government. Left side of slide shows Colt’s Patent mark and 2-line address. Right side of the frame reads “AUTOMATIC COLT / CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS”. Left side of frame shows SN stamped above trigger guard bow. Trigger guard bow shows military inspector stamp “K. M.” on left forward bow. No other marks are visible on the pistol. The pistol has a lanyard ring attached to the butt on the left side of frame. There is an external indicator on the slide to show if the chamber is loaded. Pistol has a spur hammer and a grip safety.Accompanied with the gun ia a Colt Factory letter detailing its configuration and special order features.Serial number 157 was shipped cal 45/c with 5 inch barrel and blue finish. Special features are listed as ,Furnished with a modified hammer, a nearly vertical ejection, the extractor milled into the top of the slide that indicates chamber loaded,an automatic safety, a straightened stirrup,a lengthened trigger stirrup pin, a clip type magazine release at rear of butt, below the grip”United States Government”. Shipped to Springfield Armory Springfield Massachusetts March 17 1908. Group of 200 guns in shipment. CONDITION: Very fine. Slide is a smooth polished finish overall with sharp markings. Slide appears to have had an application of cold blue at sometime in the past. No polishing is evident. Frame shows 90% blue finish that is turning somewhat plum color. SN and inspector marks are sharp. Frame shows some slight handling marks. Fire blue parts, grip safety, trigger, hold open latch, screws, and pins all retain a generous amount of fire blue. Hammer shows nearly all of the original case coloring. Firing pin shows straw finish. Grips are fine with sharp checkering and very little evidence of handling. Magazine retains 80% blue with wear marks on front and rear. Mechanics are jammed and need attention; pistol is stuck on full cock.
