THREE FINE ANTEBELLUM ALLEN & THURBER PEPPERBOX PISTOLS WITH IVORY GRIPS.

SN 85/194/375. Cal. 32. This is a nice grouping of 3 variant pepperboxes. There are two with 3-1/2″ 6-shot bbl clusters; one with raised flats between bbls marked “ALLEN & THURBER / WORCESTER”, “CAST STEEL” and “PATENTED 1837”. The pistol without flats has makers mark on bbl cluster but hammer is marked “ALLEN’S PATENT / 1845”. The third pistol has 2-1/2″ 5-bbl cluster marked in 3-flutes “ALLEN & THURBER”, “WORCESTER”, and “PATENTED 1845”. Ivory stocks are all factory and SNd. Accompanied by Mr. Ballard’s hand drawn display cards. PROVENANCE: Lifetime collection of Roger Ballard. CONDITION: Very good overall. The 5-shot retains about 50% thinning bright blue on bbl cluster and traces of blue on frame with overall plum/grey patina with pitting. SN 85 has been cleaned and is overall bright grey with staining and pitting, all matching except grips which are numbered “84”. SN 375 is brown/plum overall with traces of blue in protected areas, grips fit well, but are each numbered “255”. Mechanically fine with clear bores on each pistol.
