PAIR OF AMERICAN POCKET PISTOLS.1) STOCKING & CO PEPPERBOX. SN 68. Cal. 31. This is a scarce pepperbox made in Worcester, Mass. with unusual cocking spur on hammer which is marked “PATENT SECURED 1848”. 6-shot 4″ bbl cluster. There is agent mark on one bbl flat “SUTHERLAND” (probably Richmond, VA). Accompanied by Mr. Ballard’s hand drawn display card. PROVENANCE: Lifetime collection of Roger Ballard. CONDITION: Good to very good overall. Metal is overall mottled dark grey patina with pitting, markings discernible. All matching with well fit well patinaed grips. Mechanically fine with clear pitted bore. ESA 2) SHARPS PEPPERBOX. SN 4892. Cal. 30. This is a nice example of an ivory gripped nickel plated, 4-bbl pepperbox with standard 3″ cluster. Sharps patent mark and address are found on either side of frame. Accompanied by Mr. Ballard’s hand drawn display card. PROVENANCE: Lifetime collection of Roger Ballard. CONDITION: Fine overall. Gun retains 95% plus old re-plated surface. Markings are crisp and discernible as are matching SNs. Grips are well fit with ivory patina. Mechanically fine with crisp bores.
