HEAVY BARREL SCOPED CIVIL WAR ERA UNDERHAMMER TARGET RIFLE.NSN. Cal. 45. 45″ overall, not including false muzzle or starter with 29″ 22-1/2 lb oct bbl marked “REMINGTON / CAST STEEL” on bbl flat under 30″ steel tube scope sight. This gun is very similar to examples known to be used in the Civil War and a similar weapon is on display at the Gettysburg National Park Museum. Accompanied by 4-pin 1-1/4″ false muzzle and a 4″ brass bodied fitted starter. Bbl is mounted on a heavy 4″ dovetailed support near muzzle. CONDITION: Very good overall. Bbl has traces of orig brown and is an overall plum patina with staining and pitting. Hammer has old braised repair and stock has crack repair at wrist. Optics appear very good and clear. False muzzle and starter are functional. Mechanics are functional with bright, well defined rifled bore 52701-3 JS (3,000-5,000) – Lot 3288
