HIGH CONDITION CASED PAIR OF PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOLS BY F. GOSSET OF PARIS.

NSN. Cal. 52. 9″ Swamped octagon bbls with multi-groove rifling, are gold inlaid “F. GOSSET A PARIS” on top flats, and guns are numbered “1” and “2”. Breech plugs are case hardened and breech irons are fitted with integral sights. Case hardened locks with swept flat faced hammers are nicely engraved. Makers name and address are in two color gold on each plate. Triggers are set. Figured European walnut half stocks with no provision for ramrods, have shell carved tips and checkered flared grips carved around perimeter. Furniture is of iron. Trigger guards have finger spurs. Elm burl veneered case is lined in green cloth and is french fitted for pistols and a number of period accessories, including loading rods and rosewood hammer, mold, turnscrew, and a horn bodied brass powder flask. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain nearly all of their orig brown. Breech plugs have a similar amount of case hardening color, which is also on locks. Other furniture shows considerable cleaning to bright silver with some color left where protected. Wood retains most of its french polish finish, and both pistols stocks appear to be sound, except with repair to forend tip of one pistol. The same pistol has repaired crack above lock screw escutcheon. Mechanically excellent. Case is very fine with some small marks and dings. Interior is fine with staining and compressions.
