FINE CIRCA 1810 MAKER MARKED ENGLISH FLINTLOCK PISTOL EPROUVETTE.

NSN. Eprouvettes were utilized for testing potency of gun powder and various ingenious devices are found in many forms including this unique “FISHER / LONDON” marked pistol style with a V-spring and graduated scale which would show larger numbers for stronger powder supposedly. It is interesting to note that eprouvettes became obsolete when scientific evidence published by Mordicai for the American army proved these measurements almost worthless just prior to the Civil War. This curiosa are popular collector items that not often come to market especially in such fine functional condition. CONDITION: Fine overall, traces of finish in protected areas, markings crisp, metal overall gray patina with staining and pinprick pitting. Wooden bag grip is sound solid and well fit with hand worn patina. Mechanically fine. 52632-6 JS (1,200-1,500) – Lot 3389
