LOT OF FOUR EARLY AMERICAN UNDERHAMMER PERCUSSION PISTOLS.1) ETHAN ALLEN POCKET RIFLE. SN 1. Cal 32. Bbl 5-1/2″ rnd with facet at transition to oct shank. Iron box action with center mounted under hammer and trigger. Action has floral engraving. Top strap is marked “E. Allen / GRAFTON / MASS” and “POCKET RIFLE / CAST-STEEL / WARRANTED”. Small brass blade front sight with v-notch rear fixed sight. Walnut saw handle grip with German silver escutcheons. Upper portion of grip has small circular decorations. Bottom flat of bbl is marked with assembly no. “1”. CONDITION: Good. Metal finish has faded to even brown patina showing spots of light pitting. Grip shows scattered handling marks. Mechanics are functional. Dark pitted bore has partially discernible rifling. 2) EARLY AMERICAN PERC UNDERHAMMER PISTOL. NSN. Cal 40. Bbl is 5-1/2″ oct. Small blade front side with u-notch rear sight. Action is contained between iron grip straps with plain trigger and unusually large underhammer with cocking spur. 1-pc hardwood grip. Right side has curved German silver reinforcement plate fastened by 3 screws. Hardwood ramrod held on iron under rib by 2 iron pipes. Many pistols of this style were manufactured in Vermont. CONDITION: Very good. Metal finish has faded to mottled gray patina showing small dents and spots of pitting. Grips have dark worn appearance with handling marks having crack through right side near butt with small cracks and chips along top strap and bbl plate. Mechanics are functional. Dark bore has intact rifling and shows spots of pitting. 3) UNIDENTIFIED PERC UNDERHAMMER PISTOL. NSN. Cal. 36. 10″ overall with 5″ oct bbl, unmarked and typical of other New England made examples. CONDITION: Good to very good overall. Gun appears orig and complete with addition of a couple of restored screws. Metal is grey/brown overall. Mechanics fine with sharp rifled bore. 4) ANDRUS & OSBORN PERC UNDERHAMMER PISTOL. SN 320. Cal. 28. 10-1/2″ overall. German silver mounted with 17 inset German silver stars in oct bbl housing and breech. 5 German silver bands. Top bbl flat is marked with an American eagle and “ANDRUS & OSBORN / CANTON CONN.” Flip-up tang peep sight, fixed rear sight and tiny blade front sight on raised ring of cannon bbl muzzle. Gun is also stamped “CAST STEEL” on left side. CONDITION: Very good overall. Metal is a mottled grey overall with staining and pitting. Markings are all easily discerned. German silver mounts and binding well fit in varnished bag-grip stock.
