RARE AND UNIQUE “WHITLOCK’S PATENT” UNDERHAMMER PERCUSSION FOWLER WITH GOLD AND SILVER DAMASCENE BARREL.

NSN. Cal. 42 Bore, 48 Cal. This is an interesting and fine looking unique longarm which is fully functional and bbl is embellished with gold and silver Damascene decoration. We have not encountered this unusual long spring underhammer mechanism before which is marked in raised cartouche on the spring hammer retained trigger guard “WHITLOCKS / PATENT”. 48-1/2″ overall, 34-1/4″ rnd bbl with wedding rings and raised Indo-Persian style breech ring with sight notch and silver blade front sight. 90% of exposed bbl service has gold and silver Damascene decoration. CONDITION: Very good overall. Gun appears orig and complete. Iron is dark with pitting, especially buttplate. Gold and silver highlights are 50-60% intact as can be seen in photos.
