*COLT 45 AUTOMATIC 1911A1 COMMERCIAL TO MILITARY CONVERSION PISTOL WITH FACTORY LETTER.

SN 862442. Cal. 45. 5″ bbl. All parts correct and appear to be orig with possible exception of bbl bushing. Matching SN under firing pin stop plate. In 1942, Ordnance Dept. requisitioned all Colt’s commercial production to be converted to military configuration. Commercial markings on frame were obliterated by peening and military markings over-stamped. 6575 Government Model and National Match pistols were converted to military configuration. Slide left and right sides retain commercial government model markings. All parts are identical to commercial parts at the time except stocks are Colt wood plastic with large rings and reinforcing ribs. Thin flat rounded front sight. Flat rear sight with rounded notch. Wide spur hammer. Checkered thumb safety and slide stop. Checkered mainspring housing. Long spur grip safety. “COLT 45 AUTO” marked small “G” bbl with slight frosting in grooves. Bbl bushing appears to be a possible replacement, as it is extra tight and slightly odd shaped. All other parts including “COLT 45 AUTO” marked magazine appears to be orig to pistol. Right trigger guard bow shows “84” final assembler. Left trigger guard bow shows “R” final inspector over verified proof. Ordnance wheel shows flattened finish in stamps. “GHD” mark shows flattened finish. Accompanied by Colt factory letter showing date of shipment to Springfield Armory. CONDITION: Fine. Slide retains 95% orig finish with considerable flattening of finish from holster wear. Receiver shows 95% finish with most wear on edges and dust cover. Front grip strap very strong finish. Small “G” marked bbl thinning through ejection port. Grip screw slots excellent. Grip screws thinning finish. Magazine catch lock slot shows screwdriver damage. Mechanics are fine with possible exception of a too tight bbl bushing. Overall, a very attractive commercial to military conversion pistol with only a possible bbl bushing replaced. 52528-11 KXK (2,250-3,500) C&R – Lot 2256
