WINCHESTER 3RD MODEL 1873 RIFLE WITH HALF-MAGAZINE AND FACTORY LETTER.

SN 148441. Cal. 32 WCF. 24″ rnd bbl, half-magazine, blue finish, straight grained American walnut stocks with crescent buttplate. Bbl has standard sporting sights with rear buckhorn. Bbl shows 2-line Winchester address in front of rear sight with Cal. mark to the rear. Receiver is of the stepped variety. Upper tang shows “MODEL 1873” with finials. SN stamped on lower tang. Cal. is stamped on elevator. This rifle is accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter confirming all features and showing shipment on May 14, 1884 to Order Number 12298. PROVENANCE: The collection of Tim Zissler. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 80-90% blue finish with some slight muzzle wear and a few scratches. Markings are sharp. Sights are very good. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver retains 90% plus bright blue finish with a few minuscule scratches and some high point wear. Dust cover shows nearly all blue finish. Loading gate snows nearly all fire blue finish. Elevator is a smooth mustard patina with sharp Cal. mark. Hammer and lever both retain a generous amount of case colored finish. All markings are sharp. Stocks are fine, full sized and retain nearly all of the varnish finish with only slight handling marks. Crescent buttplate shows 50% case color that has drifted slightly to smooth silver/grey patina. Forend cap retains 90% bright blue finish. Mechanics are crisp. 52471-14 TEP (5,000-8,000) – Lot 3006
