EXTREMELY FINE WHITNEY, MISSISSIPPI RIFLE RETAINING MOST OF ITS ORIGINAL BROWN ON BARREL.NSN. Cal. 54. 33″ rnd bbl with brass mounts. Standard configuration. “E. WHITNEY / US” forward of hammer, “N. HAVEN / 1849” rear of hammer. Bbl is dated “1846” and has crisp proofs “US / JH / VP”. Two well discerned cartouches are found in stock opposite lock. PROVENANCE: The Confederate and Civil War estate collection of Fred Donaldson. CONDITION: Fine overall. Bbl is extremely fine retaining 90% plus orig brown finish. Lock and hammer are grey with staining and pitting and muted case colors in protected areas. Crisp markings. Brass mounts cleaned with light mustard patina. Stock is sound, solid with hand worn dark patina with cosmetic blemishes including small dings, dents and scratches.
