BIG BORE HEAVY BARREL PERCUSSION PLAINS RIFLE.

NSN. Cal. 54. Weighing in at just over 13 lbs, this 32-1/2″ oct bbl, 2-key half-stock rifle with set triggers would have been good for shooting buffalo. Gun is totally unmarked with exception of lightly engraved lock, breech, patchbox and trigger guard. There is a 2-3/4″ German silver eagle inset on cheekpiece. Our consignor attributes this gun to Tristan Campbell of St. Louis, an employee and later partner of Samuel Hawkens. CONDITION: Good overall. Iron is overall mottled grey with pitting. Two iron ramrod pipes are re-soldered. Cone and set screw are replaced so gun is functional. German silver escutcheons and nosecap cleaned with grey patina. Stock is sound though broken and repaired at wrist. Checkering is heavily worn. Mechanics are fine with well defined 8-lands and grooves in bore. 52367-5 (3,000-5,000) – Lot 3290
