LEHIGH COUNTY PA FLINTLOCK RIFLE ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN MOLL.NSN. Cal. 41. Overall 63″ . Buttplate 4-1/8″ x 1-3/4″. 48″ full oct unmarked rifled bbl. Rifle is curly maple stocked with no carving and 2-pc brass fleur-de-lis patchbox is characteristic of John Moll’s style and is engraved with a “PB”. The studded brass trigger guard, the sheathed buttplate and 5″ arrowback sideplate are all characteristic of Lehigh county style. 2″ toeplate is nicely engraved. The 9″ brass saddleplate is not common to Moll rifles but has been used in the Lehigh County area. Rifle has an oval silver inlay at the wrist which is engraved “GW”. The long saddle plate and large flat arrowback sideplate are more typical of guns made in northwest section of Lehigh County, PA. CONDITION: 18″ forend wood is replaced along with 12″ of bbl. Lock hammer screw needs repair. Otherwise, the rifle is in very good condition throughout. Good mechanical function, lock functions. 52367-2 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 3299
