ANTIQUE WINCHESTER 1ST MODEL 1886 OCTAGON BARREL RIFLE WITH FACTORY LETTER.

SN 934. Cal. 45-70. 26″ oct bbl, full magazine, blue and case color finish. Straight grain American walnut stocks with crescent buttplate. Winchester address is rolled in front of rear sight. Cal. designation appears at the breech of bbl. Rear sight is marked “1876”. Upper tang is marked “MODEL 1886” bordered by dashes. SN is engraved on lower tang under lever. Patent dates also appears under lever. Lever has 1st Type lever latch located on left side of lever. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter confirming features and showing shipment on November 5, 1886 to Order Number 11281. CONDITION: Extremely fine as professionally restored. Bbl and magazine tube retain nearly all of the dull blue finish. Markings are sharp. Sights are very good. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver, hammer, lever, buttplate and forend cap all retain nearly most of their re-case colored finish. Stocks are replacements and show very few handling marks overall. Mechanics are crisp. A nice example of an early 86 rifle in a desirable caliber that has been professionally restored. 52343-1 TEP (4,000-6,000) – Lot 3018
