RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 OPEN TOP SADDLE RING CARBINE.

SN 2912. Cal. 45-75. 22″ rnd bbl, full blue finish, saddle ring attached, straight grain American walnut stocks with full length forend and steel carbine buttplate. Bbl shows 2-line Winchester address in front of rear sight. Sights are of the carbine type with a folding leaf rear sight. Forend has a steel cap. Receiver is of the open top variety. “MODEL 1876” is stamped on the upper tang. SN is engraved on the lower tang and behind lever latch. Elevator is unmarked. CONDITION: Very good for this model. Bbl has a smooth grey/brown patina overall. Markings are sharp. Sights are very good. There is a small dent in front of the rear sight. Bbl band shows some pitting. Forend cap is a smooth grey/brown patina. Receiver shows moderate pitting overall that has been cleaned and touched up. Sideplate and lever screws are replacements. Trigger pin is a replacement. Loading gate also shows some pitting. Elevator has a mustard yellow patina with some staining and shows cleaning. SN is engraved behind lever latch on lower tang. SN engraving has been chased but appears to be the correct number. Stocks are very good, slightly under-sized and show a 4-screw repair at the wrist. Screw holes have been plugged. Stocks show handling marks overall commensurate with the age of the carbine.. Buttplate is also a grey/brown patina with erosion at the heel and toe. Mechanics are functional, but somewhat loose. Bore is very frosty with visible rifling. Chance to obtain a very rare open top 1876 saddle ring carbine that because of its rareness would be acceptable in this condition. 52285-1 TEP (4,500-6,500) – Lot 3016
