EARLY MAPLE STOCKED FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY FOWLER ATTRIBUTED TO PETER YOUNG, EASTON PA GUNSMITH.

NSN. Cal. 58. Overall 60-1/2″. Buttplate 4-1/4″ x 1-3/4″. 45-5/8″ oct to rnd unsigned smooth bbl. This Fowler has a 2-pc brass patchbox with a Philadelphia style engraved pineapple on its finial. 10-3/8″ brass trigger guard also features the engraved Philadelphia style pineapple, often used by Peter Young. The flint lock is engraved and marked “warranted” and the Fowler has a curled trigger typical of earlier guns. Bbl is pinned to the stock with oval brass inlays on each side of the forend where pinned. The Young family had connection in Philadelphia which probably accounts for the Philadelphia pineapple decorations. The Young family was active in Easton, PA for many generations and their guns are sought after by collectors. CONDITION: Fair, due to stock having been stretched, otherwise in very good condition. Mechanics are functional. The oval brass wrist inlay is missing and the front 5-1/2″ of stock has been replaced. 52032-3 RGG (2,500-4,500) – Lot 3298
