EXCEEDINGLY RARE (1 OF 2 KNOWN) FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY SMOOTH RIFLE SIGNED BY JOHN YOUNG, EASTON PA.

NSN. Cal. 54. Overall 60-1/4″. Buttplate 4-1/4″ x 1-3/8″. 45-1/2″ full oct smooth bbl signed “John Young”. This is one of only 2 known signed John Young Rifles! This smooth rifle has a 2-pc brass nicely engraved patchbox, the finial of which has four piercings similar to the John Young shown on the first page of the article “The Young Family of Gunsmiths” in The Kentucky Rifle Association, Vol. 24 No. 2. The cheek is decorated with a silver 8-pointed star within an oval, customary for the Young family. The wrist is decorated with a 1-1/4″ oval silver inlay. CONDITION: Fair condition due to 30″ of forend wood having been replaced. There is also wood replacement between the lock and bbl tang. The lock is not working and needs adjustment, otherwise this is a very attractive and exceedingly rare gun with a great look to it. A collector may not have another chance to obtain a signed Young gun in his lifetime. 52032-2 (3,500-5,500) – Lot 3294
