FINE “S HAWKEN ST LOUIS” HALF-STOCK PLAINS RIFLE.NSN. This appears to be an honest, complete, 58 caliber, 50″ overall, 33-1/2″ full oct bbl. Iron mounted with German silver blade front sight. Marked on top of bbl “S.HAWKEN ST. LOUIS”. Set triggers, dbl keys. PROVENANCE: Pictured plate 61, page 46, John D. Baird’s text “The Mountain Man’s Choice”. Outstanding estate collection of Confederate and historical arms of Morris Racker. CONDITION: Very good overall, good marking, functional action, with clean crisp rifled bore. Stock is sound and solid. Refinished with small cosmetic blemishes. Brass tipped ram rod has iron tip threaded for worm, correct style for era, but added.
