She sits atop large brown horse in a summer landscape, unframed. This painting comes from the same family as the other five Pope’s in this sale. It’s canvas attachment to stretcher is identical, age and style contribute to the thought that it could be by Alexander Pope. Inscribed in chalk in block letters at top of stretcher Mary Chase.
