LIMESTONE SEATED FIGURE OF A BUDDHA, PROBABLY WEI DYNASTY.

China. Seated in lotus position on a square pedestal. The figure with serene smile, one hand in a gesture of no fear, the other in calling to earth his witness and all in front of a large Mandorla with smaller Buddhist figures. The reverse with two donor portraits and extensive calligraphy dating it to the 4th year of the Tai He period. SIZE: 12-1/2″ h. CONDITION: Overall wear due to age, some chips around the edges and chisel mark to Mandorla. Reverse with remnants of polychrome. 1053-5 (4,000-6,000) – Lot 4152
