RARE WINCHESTER MATCH GRADE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 16ga. Extremely rare gun with 29-11/16″ bbls choked IC/IC with dbl. lump and dolls head rib extension. The rib is marked ” WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO (MATCH GUN) NEW HAVEN CONN. USA”. These shotguns were only imported and sold by Winchester between 1879-1884. Receiver has nicely scalloped fences with fine English arabesque and game scene engraving with vignettes of a dog and guinea fowl. Lock plates are also marked with the makers name and “MATCH GUN”. It has dbl. triggers and extractors. Wood is nicely figured walnut with full checkered splinter forearm and round knob checkered stock with checkered horn buttplate. Accompanied by a letter from Ronald W. Stadt of Carbondale, IL dated March 11th, 1993 giving some background on this shotgun back to about 1984. Further accompanied by a large packet of research information regarding Winchester shotguns. This shotgun is pictured, by serial number in the WINCHESTER SHOTGUNS AND SHOTSHELLS by Ronald W. Stadt on the first page of chapter 1 and in greater detail on page 3 of the same chapter. SN 1310. CONDITION: Good to very good. The bbls retain most of an old refinish. Receiver and lock plates retain 15-20% case colors in the sheltered areas with the balance turned silver. Wood is sound and retains generous amounts of original oil finish.
