Please Note: We have been informed that the bronze figure is probably Admiral Heihachiro Togo (1848-1934), Japan’s greatest naval officer and victor of battle of Tsushima, annihilating the Russian fleet in 1915. He is still a hero and bronzes are often presented to or by naval personnel. US Admiral Chester Nimitz helped with preservation of the battleship Mikasa (Togo’s flagship) at Yokosuka, Japan and there is a Togo memorial garden at the Nimitz museum in Fredericksburg, Texas. BRONZE FIGURE OF WWII ERA JAPANESE NAVAL OFFICER.Fine bronze figure of Japanese Naval officer holding binoculars in right and sword with handguard in scabbard in left hand. From the estate collection of a WWII U.S. Navy veteran. Bronze figures such as these were often given as retirement gifts to Japanese officers. This one may have been given to a schoolmaster at one of the U.S. Japanese training academies. Maker’s marked at rear of base which is hollow. SIZE: 19-1/2″ h. Base 5-1/2″ x 5-5/8″.
