IMPORTANT LOT OF THREE CHINESE EXPORT ARMORIAL TUREENS WITH UNDERPLATES.

Late 18th century, Chinese. Each piece having a family crest with split red field in shield shape having 3 lions on each side surmounted by a clinched fist holding a wreath below which has a banner “‘NOBILIS.EST.IRA.LEONIS” (The Lion’s Anger is Noble). This crest is believed to belong to the Clan Stuart of Bute. The other decoration of each piece includes sprays of flowers in a chain-like border. The handles are red boar’s heads and each having decorative finials. The lot consists of a large covered tureen with underplate and two smaller covered sauce tureens with underplates. SIZE: Large tureen is 13-1/2″ dia. (with handles) 8-1/2″ w x 8-1/2″ h with cover. Small tureens are 7-1/2″ l x 4-1/2″ w x 4-1/4″ h. Large underliner is 16-1/2 w x 13″ l. Smaller underliners are 7-3/4″w x 5-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: Private Maine/Texas Collector. CONDITION: Restored with some visible hairline cracks. 50012-138 (2,000-4,000) – Lot 3588
