LOT OF THREE LARGE LACQUERED BOXES.

China. 19th/20th century. 1) A mother of pearl inlaid stationery box with 5 sectioned interior. 2) A large pewter lined master tea caddy with inlaid decoration and handles. 3) Gilt decorated footed game box. Interior complete with original fitted containers and trays. Comes with carved mother of pearl game counters. SIZE: 1) 15-1/4″ l x 9-1/2″ w x 8-1/4″ h. 2) 14-1/4″ l x 10″ w x 11″ h. 3) 15-1/4″ l x 11-3/4″ w x 5-1/4″ h. PROVENANCE: By descent thru the family of William Gano Pierce (1825 – 1875) who sailed from New York on board the Samuel Russell under Captain T. D. Palmer to Hong Kong, arriving June 15th, 1849. He remained in China for eight years. By direct descent through the family to the current owner. CONDITION: 1) Chipping around the edges, some minor loss to inlay. 2) Losses to the inlay, chipping and stress cracks to lacquer surface, minor denting to pewter lining, locking mechanism not functional. 3) Minor losses to the lacquered surface, some splitting to the lacquer to the interior at seams. 51637-7 (1,500-2,000) – Lot 3570
