SN 2517S71. Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 32″ Bbls with Broadway ventilated rib, are gold inlaid with Browning Morgan Utah, and Montreal PQ addresses, and “MADE IN BELGIUM” on left side. Rear left side is stamped for full and full chokes. Blued standard OU action features non-automatic safety and single selective trigger with finger blade checkered. Action is embellished with attractive exceptionally well executed relief two-color gold inlay of attenuated open scroll surrounding two-color relief gold scenes of dogs retrieving birds on flush gold inlaid lined ground. The dog portrait seems to be of the same springer spaniel retrieving various birds to hand, with a mallard on left, cock pheasant on right, and another duck on bottom of action. This obviously special order engraving and inlay is signed “Vrancken” on right rear, who was most likely responsible for the dogs and birds, and “L. Ernst” on left, who may have done the scroll. Exhibition quality, impressively stump and flame figured, dense, American walnut long tang square knob buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over Silver type pad over 3/8″ well matching lengthening piece. Checkering on grip is flanked by nicely carved open scroll with stippled background. This treatment is also on bottom of grip. Matching flared beavertail forend is checkered to match, but with more prominent carved beaded borders. Bore diameter: top -.732, bottom – .732. Bore restrictions: top – .028 (Imod), bottom – .019 (mod). Drop at heel: 1-11/16″, drop at comb: 1-9/16″. Cast: Neutral. Weight: 8 lbs. 8 oz. LOP: 14-1/4″. Bbls retain nearly all of what appears to be orig blue, but is possibly a high quality re-blue, with some light assembly marks. Action retains nearly all of its brilliant blue finish, with a hint of silvering on sharp edges. Stocks retain essentially all of what is most likely a very professional hand rubbed oil refinish, sharp edges, checkering, and carving preserved. Pad is new. Bores are excellent. Mechanically crisp.
