FINE VENETIAN CAVALRY OR MARINE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL, CIRCA 1750/1780.

NSN. Cal. .67 Bore. 10-1/2″ Tapered round bbl has indecipherable proofs at breech end. Early cambered lock has unbridled friction frizzen and flat faced serpentine cock. A circular stamp is on rebated tail. Walnut full length stock is brass mounted with faceted knob grip cap and semi-relief cast sideplate, trigger guard, and thimble. Brass escutcheon at top of grip is engraved with grotesque face flanked by wings. PROVENANCE: Private Lifetime Collection Of A Noted Scholar And Authority. CONDITION: Fair to good. Iron parts are cleaned to bright silver over considerable pinprick pitting. Brass nicely toned to mustard brown. Stock has evidence of many repairs, most notably at front of lock and forend tip.
