SN V297656. Cal. .38 SPL. 5″ bbl, full brush blue finish, 2-pc plain walnut grips. Top of the bbl shows 2-line S&W address and patent mark. Left side of bbl is stamped “Smith & Wesson”, right side of the bbl shows cal mark. SN is stamped on the butt of the grip, rear face of the cyl, and on the bottom of the bbl at the breech. Frame has “Cal. 38 Special” stamped on the left side under the cyl latch, this is a non-factory mark. Right side of frame has S&W trademark stamped the the rear on sideplate. “Made in U.S.A.” is stamped on the right front side of the frame. CONDITION: Revolver shows a dull gray/blue matte finish overall, all markings are sharp and un-polished. Bore is bright with sharp rifling. Chambers are clean. Cyl shows a slight drag mark. Hammer and trigger are also a deep gray/brown patina. Grips are very good with handling marks and scratches overall and traces of varnish finish, grips are not orig to this revolver. Right grip is stamped “V288701”. “Owen Glen” is scratched on inside of left grip. These revolvers were produced during WWII to arm civilians in areas of shore defense and military installations in the U.S. 51389-7 TEP (750-1,000) C&R – Lot 3484
