AW.W MODEL 1889 DOUBLE BARREL NAVY SIGNAL PISTOL.

SN 20. Cal. .27mm. 5″ brass mono-block double bbls with flared muzzle. Push latch bbl release with double checkered face plates on each side below the bbl. Butt is marked “AW.W.17.” over “20”. SN 20 is also stamped on bbl release and on breech end of bbl rib. Double checkered steel hammers. Single checkered steel trigger. Smooth walnut grips. Butt mark signifies manufacture by “Arsenalwerkestatte Wilhelmshaven”, manufactured 1917. Only 2500 pieces of this early signal pistol were manufactured. They were used as signal pistols on German U-boats. CONDITION: Excellent. Pistol shows a deep uncleaned mustard/brown patina overall. Markings are sharp. Grips are very good. Bores are slightly eroded. Right hammer does not stay in cock position. Left hammer functions. Hammers and trigger show corrosion overall. An opportunity to obtain an extremely rare flare pistol of the type issued to German submarines during WWI. 51759-1 TEP (4,000-6,000) – Lot 3473
