SN 8290. Cal. 20 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 27″ and 28″ Chopper lump bbls have nos “1” or “2” inlaid in gold at breech ends of narrow flat matted game ribs. Tops of left bbls are engraved “Flli PIOTTI ITALY”. Bbl flats are stamped with 1986 Italian nitro proofs. Bottoms of bbls are marked with importer name and address (W L Moore Westlake CA) and with grade “Mod King Extra”. Small sized coin finished sidelock action is marked with makers name, proofs, etc. and grade “King EELL”. It appears that this is a special gun made for Mr. Moore. It is fitted with non-selective single trigger, and non-automatic safety. Action and lockplates are engraved with superb large flowing scrolled acanthus with floral terminations and highlights, as is usually offered on the highest “Monaco 4” grade. This very fine engraving is signed on trigger plate “Patelli”. Beaded small bow trigger guard has matching engraving. Very fine, well marbled, and somewhat burl figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over checkered wood butt and features diamond hand with closely spaced point pattern checkering with line borders. Matching beavertail ejector forend has Anson release and inlet gold Piotti crest on uncheckered central diamond. 27″ BBLS: Bore diameter: left -.622, right – .624. Bore restrictions: left – .013 (mod), right – .007 (IC). Drop at heel: 1-15/16″, drop at comb: 1-7/16″. Cast: approx 3/8″ on. Weight: 6 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 14-1/4″. 28″ BBLS: Bore diameter: left -.623, right – .622. Bore restrictions: left – .030 (full), right – .018 (mod). Drop at heel: 1-7/8″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Cast: approx 3/8″ on. Weight: 6 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 14-1/4″. Dark leather case with stitched leather corners by Nizzoli is lined in dark olive felt, and has brown Piotti label in lid. Case has space for action and both sets of bbls, and contains proof certificate and key. PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Excellent, very close to new, with little evidence of firing since proof, and only a few very light marks in all wood and metal finishes, most notably some light vertical scratches on buttstock. Mechanically crisp. Case has some light marks on exterior leather. Interior is excellent, slightly soiled in bbl channel.
