SN 9760. (2003) Cal. 20 ga. 3″ Chambers. 28″ Demi-bloc bbls fitted with solid matted rib, are engraved “Flli PIOTTI ITALY” on left side of top bbl. Bbl flat is stamped with 2003 Italian nitro proofs. Rear portion of rib, top lever, and front portion of forend are gold inlaid “1”. Beautifully filed, coin finished, low profile OU action features non-automatic safety, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with an unusual treatment of feathers of various birds arranged as scroll, surrounding vignettes of quail; a recumbent quail on left side, flying quail on right, and bottom of action depicts a trio of quail perched on tree trunk amongst grass. Rear sides of action and lockplates continue the theme with a pointer pointing a covey of quail taking flight in dry southwestern environment. Right side depicts a pointer and two hunters with quail flushing, one hapless member of the covey has been hit. Makers name is at bottom of each sideplate scene. Single beaded small bow trigger guard has portrait of head-on flying quail on bow, and SN on tang. Engravers signature and date “Pasotti 2003″ are on trigger plate. Well marbled and lightly figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14-5/8″ over thin black Decelerator pad, and features drop points and typical point pattern checkering. Matching one piece forend has Anson type release. Bore diameter: top -.619, bottom – .620. Bore restrictions: top – .009 (IC), bottom – .014 (mod). Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-7/16″. Cast off approx 1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs. 7 oz. LOP: 14-5/8”. CONDITION: Excellent, near new, with evidence of exceptionally light field use, with only a few light handling and assembly marks on all orig factory finishes. Mechanically crisp. This gun has a present retail of over $70,000.00, without extra for special engraving. Gun no. “2” (Dove) of this set, is also in this auction, along with a matching 12 bore with dove and quail motif.
