RARE AND IMPORTANT GROUP OF GOLD AND SILVER BROCADE LINEN FROM THE RUSSIAN WINTER PALACE AT ST. PETERSBURG.Linen set consists of a 20″ square doily with six 6″ x 6″ smaller square doilies, all having a looped open border involving multiple threads. The metal threads of gold and silver have a yellow thread base which is wound with a flat gold and silver wrap. The interior design of the large doily are flowers and vines with two 1″ borders, the smaller doilies with flower heads and lines. Accompanying the set is a description on parchment paper from the Hammer Collection of New York, NY for the Russian Imperial Exhibition. The typed letter dated January 10th, 1933, described as follows “Article No.X 100 Brocade from a collection assembled at the Winter Palace, St. Petersburg, Russia, consisting of hand-loomed brocades, damasks, handout velvets, and altar sets. The metal brocades are woven with genuine gold and silver threads.” SIZE: As noted above. CONDITION: Very good some age toning. 49203-4 (25,000-35,000) – Lot 3312
