GERMAN PEACOCK NINE PIN SKITTLES CONTAINER.

Early 20th century skittles container, this elaborate container featuring the peacock with his tail feathers displayed at the rear and his open body that would have housed the nine pins. The typical construction of papier mache over cardboard gives the illusion of lifelike construction of a peacock including its long graceful neck and crown on top of the peacocks head. The rear feathers give a three dimensional effect. The dynamic coloring to the body and feathers have somewhat darkened with age. Stamped steel wheels with traces of gold coloring attached to the underside of the peacock which would allow the child to push or pull this toy along the floor. Remnants of original paper label on underside of peacock. SIZE: 15-1/2″ w (rear tail feathers) x 19-1/2″ h x 13″ l. CONDITION: Overall condition is good. Some loss to top edge of feathers on right side body of peacock. Hairline crack and minimal separation on left side of peacocks neck.
