FINELY CARVED LARGE RHINOCEROS HORN “SCHOLAR LANDSCAPE” CUP.

17th century, China. Depicting multiple scholars practicing literati exchanges including painting, drinking tea and poetry, all underneath a canopy of pine amidst a mountainous backdrop. The patina a deep honey brown color. Accompanied by stand. Weight: 474 grams. NOTE: Rhino horn is ESA Certifiable antique. Accompanied by a certification report to that effect. SIZE: 5-1/2″ h x 7-1/8″ w. PROVENANCE: By descent within a Prominent Portsmouth and Newport, Rhode Island family. CONDITION: Base plug missing. Large chip to foot rim. Interior pine tree branch with losses and small chips along the edge. Body with minor age cracks. Small losses to branches. Drilled for mounting.
