EARLY 20″ LIVE STEAM MARKLIN PLEASURE/RIVERBOAT.Typical of the Marklin firm they made a variety of toys from the later part of the 18th century through the mid 20th century that by today’s standards were excellent quality, intrinsically pleasing and highly sought after by collectors today. This particular example circa 1910 is of a pleasure boat the “Priscilla” that would have traveled in real life, the lakes and rivers of the world. The Marklin firm utilized 3 methods of propulsion, a clock work mechanism, an electric motor powered by battery and in this case a live steam motor. Oftentimes because of the live steam method and being in water the boat after 100+ years would be in poor finish and thus as in this case needing restoration. This particular boat has been fully restored to its original glory and quite possibly their might be a few replacement parts such as the masts and or lifeboats? Expert restoration including some wear and grazing to the paint give the impression that the boat actually is in remarkable original finish. Back in the day this was quite an expensive toy and it is hard to believe that this was actually a play toy for a male youth. Typical of Marklin so much attention paid to the details, including the striped deck, funnels, lifeboats, etc. A wonderful item for a collector and at only a fraction of the price of one in pristine original finish! SIZE: 20″ long. CONDITION: Expert older restoration. Boat including steam plant appear to be intact and complete, lacking only the rear flat on stern of boat. 1-13651 (12,500-17,500) – Lot 3262 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
