WORLD WAR II “SHORT SNORTER” OF DUTCH VAN KIRK’S AUTOGRAPHED BY CO-PILOT AND BOMBARDIER OF “BOCXS CAR”, B-29 SUPERFORTRESS THAT DROPPED THE ATOMIC BOMB ON NAGASAKI.Written on a French 100 Franc note, inscribed “2nd Atomic Bomb/Kermit K. Beahan (Bombardier)/Charles D. Albury (Co-Pilot). A “short-snorter” is a currency note autographed by service personnel as a piece of memorabilia commemorating an event or a communal drink at a bar. Traditionally, a group of servicemen would compare their “short-snorters” and the individual with the fewest signatures paid for all the drinks. The name was adapted from the WWI term for a short drink of liquor, usually “knocked back” in one gulp. SIZE: 7 x 3-1/2″. PROVENANCE: Dutch Van Kirk Collection, Lot 1358, Butterfields, June 11, 2002. CONDITION: Good overall. Inscription easily discernible. Folds, age discoloration and tape stains on edges.
