LARGE AMERICAN TIN HORSES ON WHEELED BASE PULL TOY.

A very unusual form for a toy, this incorporates two large wheels with eccentric axle. When the toy is pulled along the floor, the horses gallop in a realistic manner. For years, this toy has been attributed to Fallows. However, an embossed brass tag is riveted into place with the name E.J.B. Whitaker with various patent dates from 1874-1889. One horse is painted in brown and the second in black. Accompanied by what appears to be its original push/pull rod. Although the brown horse is somewhat devoid of paint, the form and presence of this toy is most impressive. The horses themselves are quite large for an American tin toy. Both tails appear to have been replaced. SIZE: 14″ l x 9-1/2″ h. CONDITION: As stated above. Brown horse has a fanciful adornment atop his belly band that is not present on the black horse. 1-13903 (1,500-2,500) – Lot 3255
