IVES CLOCKWORK SEESAW.A classic American clockwork toy from the 1880s time period depicting a metronome type action. A triangular shaped base containing a clockwork mechanism and fancifully decorated with stenciling and flowers. A wooden plank featuring a boy on one end and a girl on the other proceed with a seesaw type action when mechanism is wound. An interesting and almost hypnotic toy when in action that is rarely found and sought after by collectors of early American clockwork toys. This particular example still retains a black paper label on the seesaw, however with 100+ years of age, lettering has become somewhat indecipherable. Overall condition is very good-plus. The figures dressed in their fabric outfits (possibly redressed many years ago), feature painted tin or brass faces that retain much of their original painted finish. SIZE: 18″ long. CONDITION: As stated above. 1-13894 (2,500-4,500) – Lot 3247 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
