Please note: The consignor has advised us that the wheels may be restored. GEORGE BROWN CLOCKWORK LARNARD FIRE TOY.A totally odd form for a clockwork toy from the mid-19th century. A very early style of a fire pumper with its three original dimensional lead firemen. One with a fire horn and the others operating the equipment. Not only is the form highly unusual, but some of the coloring employed is rarely found on any other American tin toys. The flesh tone/peach coloring to the basic framework is rather odd and the stenciling used to decorate it is not found on any other American tin toy. To be quite frank, every aspect of this toy is most unique. The clockwork mechanism propels the toy along the floor and through a wire soldered to the rear axle, a bell is struck. A front fork extends the front wheels forward of the entire unit can steer it left or right. Simply put, this toy is an enigma, not only in style but also design, color and any other aspect imaginable. A rare opportunity to own a toy of this nature that for the most part is in virtually very fine all original condition. SIZE: 11″ l x 7-1/2″ h. CONDITION: As described above, upon close examination, the only issue that could be found with this toy is there appears to be the slightest amount of paint enhancement to the left rear wheel covering. Perhaps the solder had broken loose and in need of a minor repair. 1-14198 (6,000-12,000) – Lot 3245 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
