FINE CIVIL WAR 1864 DATED SPRINGFIELD RIFLE MUSKET AND 1866 DATED SPRINGFIELD ALLIN CONVERSION MUSKET.

1) SPRINGFIELD 1864. NSN. Cal. 58. This is a nice example of the last year of production of Civil War musket technically known as a model 1863 Type II with band springs. This gun is nicely marked on lock with eagle, “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” and 1864. Standard configuration, 40″ bbl, rifled with three grooves. Bbl is dated 1864 near the tang, “V P” and eagle head on the left breech flat. Stock has two crisp inspector’s cartouches and U.S. surcharge on buttplate. CONDITION: Gun appears “as found” with dark iron patina, with scattered pitting especially at breech. protected areas under bands are still bright. Gun appears orig and complete with well discerned markings. Stock is sound and solid with numerous small storage dings and dents, with hand worn patina. Mechanically gun is fine with well defined rifling in bore. 2) SPRINGFIELD 1866. NSN. Cal. 50/70. Usual configuration with 36-1/2″ rnd bbl, square base front sight/bayonet lug and 2-position rear sight graduated to three different ranges. The attached conversion breech block is marked “1866” with a Springfield eagle’s head proof. Lockplate has standard Springfield markings with eagle and the date “1863”. Mounted in a 1-pc walnut stock with three bands and 2-pc trigger guard with musket buttplate, correct slotted head ramrod. CONDITION: Very good overall. All orig and matching. Good markings and especially crisp inspector’s cartouche. Stock is sound and solid with numerous small cosmetic dings and dents, especially at butt.
