CHIPPENDALE STYLE BENCHMADE CARVED MAHOGANY ARMCHAIR.

Late 19th early 20th century, American. This nice example inspired by examples at Independence Hall. The arched shell carved crest rail with c-scrolled floral crest continuing to molded outswept ears, continuing to molded styles centering a Gothic pierced splat carved with leaf tips, drapery tassels and Gothic trefoils flanked by out scrolled molded arms terminating in Flemish-influenced rolled handgrips with scrolled volutes on in-curved molded supports centering the trapezoidal over-upholstered seat raised on square molded and carved frontal legs, rear legs backswept, joined by an H-form stretcher. SIZE: 53-1/2″ h (at back), 18″ h (at seat) x 28″ w (overall). CONDITION: Very good overall, with all original surface, dark brown color and dark un-disturbed patina. 50898-12 (800-1,200) – Lot 3240
