FALLOWS EARLY AMERICAN TIN JEROME PARK TOY.

A wonderful stylized toy from the 1880s featuring four articulated horse and riders on a wheeled tin platform. In the latter part of the 1860s there was a racetrack in Westchester County in New York and obviously this toy was created to replicate the races that took place during that time period. Typical of toys, they emulated the social, political, and daily occurrences of the time period. A bit odd that you would give a child a toy that encouraged gambling such as a racetrack toy, but perhaps during that time period, this was not taboo. When the toy is pulled along the floor, by a series of eccentric axles and pivoting horses, the toy simulated galloping. Fallows employed this particular style base with a number of their other toys such as the rabbit, dogs & hunter, farmer & pig, etc. SIZE: 9″ l. CONDITION: Toy appears to be all original. However, there is a fair amount of paint loss to the white horses. Blue base is good to good plus condition. 1-14203 (1,500-2,500) – Lot 3240
