*FINE NIEDNER RIFLE CORP COMMERCIAL MAUSER SPORTING RIFLE.

SN 93583. Cal. 30-06. 24-1/2″ Lightweight round bbl fitted with sleeved-on sling eye and front ramp holding sourdough sight and fitted with knurled protector, is marked “NIEDNER RIFLE CORP, DOWAGIAC, MICH.” Caliber is marked at left rear under “NP” in an oval proof. Standard length commercial Mauser action has had receiver ring stippled, and Lyman 48 receiver sight installed. Orig Mauser WM Oberndorf markings are on left sidewall. SN along with another NP proof is on left side of receiver ring. Bolt with damascened body and extractor has short cocking piece, flag safety, and orig unaltered pear-shaped knob. Double stage single trigger is retained. Standard bottom metal has hinged floorplate retained by pivoting lever in front of trigger guard. Lightly marbled and figured dense European walnut horn capped pistol grip stock measures 13-1/2″ over checkered Niedner style buttplate, and features right hand cheekpiece, schnabeled horn forend tip, and very cleanly cut point pattern checkering with line borders. The noted Tom Shelhammer did many stocks for Niedner Rifle Corp, and the fine workmanship exhibited in this example would lead one to believe he was the stocker, however no signature is found under grip cap or buttplate. CONDITION: Excellent, appears to be near new, retaining almost all its orig blue, with only a hint of high edge wear, and some rubs on sling eye. Stock is excellent with fine hand rubbed oil finish, and only a few minor scattered dings. Bore is excellent, sharp and shiny throughout. Action is smooth. A fine example of this classic American sporter. 50655-15 MGM154 (6,000-8,000) C&R – Lot 3230
