COLLECTION OF QUILLED BIRCH BARK BOXES, TRAYS AND A CANOE.First half 20th century, Lot consists of; Five covered boxes, three napkin rings, rectangular open top box, sixteen birch bark and sweetgrass placemats, 19th century miniature Penobscot creel, and a birch bark canoe finely made with wood staves, gunwals, with woven quill decoration, four small paddles, in red and green paint. SIZE: Boxes – smallest 3″ w x 4-1/4″ h, larges 9″ x 4″ h. Placemats – largest 11-1/2″ w x 8″ h, smallest 6-1/2″ dia. Napkin 2-3/4″ w x 3″ h. Penobscot 6-1/2″ l x 3-1/4″ w x 2-1/2″ h. Canoe 20″ l x 5-1/2″ w x 4″ h. CONDITION: Lot of boxes in various conditions, some with major quill loss. Lot of placemats, some with stitch loss and quill loss. Napkin rings are birch bark and sweetgrass with major quill loss. Penobscot creel in red paint, breaks in rim.
