UNUSUAL LACQUERED SEATED FIGURE OF A LOHAN.

Ming Dynasty, China. Carved from one piece of wood. Seated in lotus position on a high pedestal, the figure with hands in gesture of meditation and wearing long flowing robes decorated with relief carved floral brocades. Face with shaved head and serene expression. Reverse of base with remnants of script. The carving was examined by three (3) x-rays and one (1) CT scan to determine whether or not there may be an offering or some other objects concealed within. These x-rays were done at the Winchester Testing Lab in Boston, Massachusetts, at Clear Choice Acute Medical Care Facility and the dental office of Richard Y. Liu DMD Pa in Portsmouth NH with the following findings: “In quadrant C at the top right, there is a dark outline in the shape of a parasol/toadstool showing about 3/4 of the curved dome-shaped “lid” and most of the central “vessel” support” and “in quadrant C top right with the horizontal bisecting red line going through the “lid”. Again, the object is defined by dark outline.” The CT scan, performed by Portsmouth Regional Hospital, reveals tunnel passageways and evidence of several foreign objects. The scan highlights a hidden opening from the right hand to mid pedestal, diagonally through the body. There appears to be an object in the tunnel and bright illuminations nearby which possibly indicate other foreign objects. All x-rays and the CD of the CT Scan are included in the offering. These are the findings of the four facilities where the x-rays and CT scan originated, we neither qualify or disclaim these findings but wish to point out the possibility of the presence of objects. SIZE: 23″ h. CONDITION: Some losses to lacquer. Worm hole damage throughout the base. Some losses to the robes in the leg area. Larger losses to the base. 49890-4 (8,000-12,000) – Lot 3218
