CLASSICAL REVIVAL MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK BY J.E. CALDWELL PHILADELPHIA.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, late 19th or 1st quarter of the 20th century. The bonnet having a Classical scrolled and arched pediment with original three urn and spire finials, carved center plinth, arched door with free standing fluted columns at front and pierced fret sounding holes on sides. The waisted case has tassel-and-swag applied carving at top, fluted quarter columns flanking a beveled glass door with notched corners at the top and beaded lower molding. The lower case has a molded inset tablet with swag-and-tassel design and center shell, with carved claw feet at front. The eight-day time-and-strike movement has a composite dial of brass spandrels and Arabic numerals, engraved center portion with silvered chapter ring and calendar arch, as well as hemispheres, and is very high quality. Having a painted moon phase dial. Marked on back plate of movement, “R. Korfhage patented April 14, 1885”. Engraved on chapter ring “J.E. Caldwell & Co. Philadelphia”. Having the original blued steel hands and strike / silent function. The clock strikes on five chimes. Original lacquered brass weight and pendulum with wood shaft and brass bob weight. SIZE: 98″ h (finial) x 21-1/2″ w x 13-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Original surface appears to be intact and complete with finials, winding key and throat lock door key. 48766-1 (1,500-2,500) – Lot 3214
