SIGNED YAZZIE NAVAJO RUG BY PHILOMENA YAZZIE.

Circa 1988, Burntwater Arizona. The rug woven in earth tones of browns, grey, and blue all originating from vegetable dyes which is credited as the foundation for the Burntwater regional style. The design elements of a central diamond medallion with multiple zig-zag borders within pale grey spandrels is a combination of design elements taken from Gnado and Two Grey Hills. Each spandrel woven with a geometric stylized phoenix, the whole within geometric stepped guard borders with pale turquoise central medallions all within an elaborate reciprocating border pattern. As mentioned, the vegetable dyes utilized in this rug are known as “Burntwater colors”. This lot is accompanied by a copy of the appraisal done on this rug by Navajo Rug Repair Co. Tucson, AZ. This is a truly fine and rare example woven by an accomplished Native American weaver illustrating all original elements. SIZE: 4′ 9″ x 7′. PROVENANCE: This rug won first place at the Intertribal Ceremonial, Gallup New Mexico in 1988 and also won first premium at the New Mexico State Fair also in 1988.
